FACULTY
Our faculty is comprised of full-time and part-time instructors who have demonstrated a high level of competence in their field. Their combined experience in ministry and educational backgrounds bring depth to our classrooms and ministries.
Pastor Charlie Halleran, Assisting Pastor/Director
Pastor Charlie joined the staff of Calvary Chapel in
Fort Lauderdale in January of 2005.
He enjoys serving in various ministries throughout the church.
His past ministry experience includes serving as an Associate and Senior Pastor outside of
Birmingham, AL (1997-2003) and earlier as a Youth Pastor during college (1990-1994).
Charlie holds a B.A. from the Baptist College of Florida (1994) and an M. Div. from
Beeson Divinity School (1998).
Joseph Altschul
Joseph Altschul and his wife have been attending Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale since 2000 and he's been serving as a deacon. He attended the Calvary Chapel Bible Institute and served in the Benevolence Ministry. He currently teaches classes for Christianity 101 and the Ravi Zacharias School of Apologetics. Joseph surrendered and submitted his life to Jesus on December 24, 2001. He's a commercial trial lawyer with over 20 years of legal experience in South Florida, focusing on real estate, contracts, business transactions, and disputes.
Tim Day
Tim Day was a criminal trial lawyer for 28 years and is presently employed as an Assistant Federal Defender for the Southern District of Florida. Tim has been attending Calvary Chapel since 1992 and has been serving as an elder since 1997. He has previously taught New Believer and Adult Education classes and is currently serving as one of the overseers at Calvary Chapel Boca. He's been an instructor at the Ravi Zacharias School of Apologetics since its inception and has taught the following classes: "What is Truth?," "Are There Any Absolutes?," "What is Real?" and "Understanding Worldviews." Tim is married to his wife Sandy who homeschools their son Luke.
Alex Locay
Alex Locay holds a BA from the University of Miami, an MBA, and is completing his doctoral studies at Nova Southeastern University. He has served as vice president of two fortune 500 construction companies and has been president of his own construction firm for over nine years. He published his first book in apologetics in 2008 and has completed work on his second. His studies have concentrated on intelligent design and cultural and historical issues as they relate to the biblical worldview. Over the years, Alex has served in music ministry, as a youth pastor and in various outreach ministries. Alex is married to Christine Locay. They have a daughter, and are expecting their second child in 2011.
Eric Purtic
Eric Purtic started working at Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale in October 1998 when he came on board as the Master Control Operator for Calvary's in-house TV station, Cross TV. Since 2000, he's been serving in the Discipleship Ministry and has been the overseer for Christianity 101, Discipleship classes, the New Believers Ministry, and the Altar Ministry. His two greatest joys are sharing the gospel and spending time with his wife and four children. He is an elder with a passion for apologetics and discipleship.
Michael Reardon
Michael Reardon, his wife, and two children have attended Calvary Chapel since 1994 and began attending at the Plantation campus since it opened in 2005. In May of 1996, Michael's son suffered a traumatic brain injury from a near-drowning accident at their home. It was a crossroad and a journey for Michael and his family—their lives changed in a moment. Michael has been involved in the Children's Ministry, small groups, Men's Ministry, Christianity 101, and host of others. He, along with 10 others, were the first Ravi Zacharias School of Apologetics graduates in 2008. Michael developed an Adult Education curriculum and has taught a class called, "Understanding Pain and Suffering," wrought from his own experience working through his spiritual doubts. Professionally, Michael was schooled in naval architecture and is the President of a yacht management and consulting firm in Fort Lauderdale.
Michael Rust, Assisting Pastor
Michael Rust joined the staff of Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale in July of 2005. He enjoys serving in various ministries throughout the church and is currently serving as the Youth Pastor at our Boca campus. His passion for apologetics stems from 20 years as a Jehovah's Witness. He's taught in Youth Ministry, Deep Faith classes, Adult Education classes, at the Calvary Chapel Bible College, and Christian Apologetics at the Ocean's Edge School of Worship. He also leads the ministry, Answers for Jehovah's Witnesses.
VISITING FACULTY AND GUEST LECTURERS
Periodically RZSA invites visiting faculty to teach seminars to the students and the general church body of Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale.
